Pathological features determining recurrence and radioresistance in cerebral atypical meningioma

چکیده
We examined recurrence after gross total resection (GTR) or subtotal (STR) at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, of 181 cases atypical meningioma (WHO grade II). In the entire group, Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that combined necrosis and brain invasion was feature associated with worst outcome, followed in order by necrosis, histological variants (clear cell, rhabdoid, chordoid), high mitotic count, invasion. The highly significant difference between seen only patients receiving GTR, lost those treated STR. Adjuvant radiotherapy worse more so GTR. presence count (defined as >4/10HPF) radiation did not affect recurrence, but specially magnified apparent deleterious effect adjuvant radiotherapy. invasion, radiotherapy’s small reach significance. Since were randomized to radiotherapy, these results should be construed indicating this treatment is injurious. It can stated particularly alone, meningiomas are resistant any possible beneficial delaying recurrence. LEARNING OBJECTIVES This presentation will enable learner to: 1. Describe factors determining meningioma. 2. List radioresistance

One case of intradiploic meningioma, causing partial occlusion of the superior longitudinal sinus, with subsequent visual trouble and another of lipomatous meningioma with great fat content and very calcified, that was found in a LCR fistula study of the cranial anterior stage, are described by the authors as atypical meningiomas.
متن کاملMeningioma recurrence
Meningioma accounts for more than 30% of all intracranial tumours. It affects mainly the elderly above the age of 60, at a female:male ratio of 3:2. The prognosis is variable: it is usually favourable with no progression in tumour grade and no recurrence in WHO grade 1 tumours. However, a minority of tumours represent atypical (grade 2) or anaplastic (grade 3) meningiomas; this heterogeneity is...
متن کاملAdjuvant radiation therapy, local recurrence, and the need for salvage therapy in atypical meningioma.
BACKGROUND The impact of adjuvant radiation in patients with atypical meningioma remains poorly defined. We sought to determine the impact of adjuvant radiation therapy in this population. METHODS We identified 91 patients with World Health Organization grade II (atypical) meningioma managed at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center between 1997 and 2011. A propensity score model incor...
متن کاملFrequency and Relationship between Risk Factors Affecting Recurrence of Cerebral Meningioma in Patients Admitted to Selected Hospitals in Yazd: A 10-Year Study
Introduction: Meningioma is a benign tumor of the brain, which shows a good response to treatment, surgery and benign pathology, but there is a possibility of recurrence. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between recurrent meningioma risk factors and the rate of meningioma recurrence in Yazd City. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed...

Demyelinating optic neuritis is the commonest cause of optic neuropathy in young adults. Retrobulbar optic neuritis is one of the frequent clinical forms of demyelinating optic neuritis. We report a case of a 28-year-old lady who presented with blurring of vision in the right eye for one month and pain on eye movement. Fundi examinations were normal. Initial suspicion was that of retrobulbar op...
